Who am I?

As an Assistant at the Biobix lab for Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics at the University of Ghent, I am in the last two years of my PhD. Born one year early for the master Bioinformatics, I chose 'cell- and gene biotechnology' as a specialization. I got a first taste of Bioinformatics during my master thesis, and since then came a long way, currently also teaching in that same master in Bioinformatics. At the moment I am looking for additional challenges in the private sector to broaden my experience.

Experience

In the "omics" field, I specialized in complex designs for gene expression, transcript expression, methylation analysis and the functional integration of these data types. Furthermore, I have some experience in exploratory biomarker identification and identification of regulatory transcription factor . As a teacher of the courses Applied High Throuhgput Analysis and Genome Analysis, I guide students through the basics of different "omics" analysis. We show to use state-of-the-art tools and the statistical principles for a broad range of different data types (e.g. chipSeq, variant calling). In general, I have a basic understanding of these techniques and am always keen to deepen my skills thereof.
